NX611 – Taxi Run

What’s wrong with a Lancaster than can taxi? It’s a living and breathing icon that pleases a lot of people. For a flying Lanc, that space if already filled. We all would love to see two Lancs in formation but that’s not going to happen, due to the cost.

The one thing that would really have me in seventh heaven would be to see Just Jane, PA474 and the CWH Lanc flying together.

hey thats a really good initiative get on to your local euro mp and make him earn his 5o grand a year, and it might just come off,seriously the EEc should be prepared to fund such programmes after all their coffers are overflowing

It might just work with the EEC ! – Germany however might just veto the funding! Has the EEC ever funded WWII aircraft as part of reconciliation??

this aircraft so deserves to be where she is ,after languishing at Squires gate Blackpool, then being rescued by the RAF and taken to Scampton,to be gate guardian, finally then being purchased by the Panton brothers and painstakingly restored to her now exellent condition, she was flown fourteen times by her previous owner john roast (REFLECTAIR )that was a tremendous acheivement ,it would be nice to see her flying again ,and it would take some of the load off PA474, in my opinion Nx611 should be allowed to grace our skies once again what about the glorious EEc getting its hand in its pocket

You should be able to get the video’s from East Kirkby, but be mindful that the place does not open on a Sunday. But I know you will enjoy being there any other day of the week you happen to go!:D

Ah thanks for the warning about the opening time, luckily my 4yr old step son is Lanc mad, I built one for him last week 😀 And for his young age he can tell the diff between a Lanc & Shacks too LoL I cant wait and I know when he finds out he will be exstatic (sp?) mind you all I get at the moment is “Bex when can I see a LaMcaster” (his words LoL)

To enjoy a little more of Just Jane in the flesh so to speak, try and get hold of the videos ‘Two Farmers and a Lancaster’, ‘Operation Lancaster’ and ‘Just Jane NX611’, all by PrimeTime Video (may be able to souce them via Amazon).

They are excellent videos which show all the hard work and dedication that goes into keeping Just Jane living and breathing, as well as a superb memorial to Ferd & Harolds’ brother Christopher.

Keith, thanks for that, will do some digging. We’re going to Skeggy in October and according to the websites given above, East Kirby is only 15 miles from there, so looks like I might get to see Jane for real.

Thanks for the welcome. As you can see I’m a long time lurker but only took up the photography lark recently (again). I’m fortunate to live in Lossie so plenty of Tonkas and we do seem to be getting the lions share of exercises/deployments up here. I also know the chap who taxis Just Jane quite well 😉

Hi Bex,the brother was killed during ww2 ,not flying on Just Jane.

Christopher was one of those who failed to return. “We have always had close links with the Royal Air Force since the death of our brother Christopher, flying in a Halifax bomber on the Nuremberg Raid in 1944”

I spoke to one of the Panton brothers a couple of years ago and she could fly with a bit of work but they are not too interested in flying her at that time [a couple of years ago].
She is unique and a memorial to their brother and many many others i think so i got the impression it was more of their decision for her not to fly rather than she could’nt.

Trumper, thanks for the rapid response. FInal question, when you say memorial to their brother, is that in a general Lancaster sense or did their brother actually fly on Jane?
