To all preservationists out there.Aeroventure have been using a superb paint stripper on their Dc3. 20 mins after application paint bubbles up like cheese on toast-it has to be seen to be believed!!! I understand it is bio-degradeable,has little affect to skin & can strip an aircraft in hours.
No pics, but she is down to bare metal and it has revealed the original Eastern Airways markings.

I confirmed on Sunday with the museum co-ordinator it is ardox 2814 they used.
Incidendally the Dak is to be completed in wartime BOAC colours-the A/C that actor Leslie Howard was lost in.

I will be honest I do not know off hand what it is called I just know it does what it says on the tin!!! However the DC3 is coming on slowly but surely.
Personally I would like to see it restored in the Eastern Airways colours but due to corrosions love of greedily devouring alclad I believe a few coats of paint will be immanent.
Had the Dak been a C-47 she would have worn 271 Sqn colours as they were reformed at Donny in WWII & took on their 1st Dak prior to moving to Down Ampney.

I saw this aircraft 4 or 5 of years ago. Given the condition of it, I assume that the restoration team is in the need of a lot of courage. How is the progress of the restoration?

Can anyone point me in the direction of the COSH sheets for ARDROX 2814 please ? Dont seem to be able to find them from the Aerospace Chem website and I’m very interested to see just how safe this stuff is to use.
Paul
Do you look for these papers?

pierrepjc,
I have them in the office, but if you give Chemetall a bell, and get them to send Trevor Wright over, he will be able to give you the full details, and probably let you have a sample.
As far as safety is concerned, its good, but not perfect. It is completely biodegradable, and works as well, if not better than anything else. If you get splashed with it, it wont take your skin off, but you dont want to be sticking your hand in it.
We used it on our Trident at the museum, in less than perfect conditions, and it worked well. It will take the majority of the paint off in one application.
All the best
Bruce

Ardrox 2814 ?
It could be the infamous and seemingly unobtainable Ardrox 2814 that Bruce & the Mosie Museum used on the Trident recently.
