Javelin 4th prototype WT830

One for the Gloster experts out there – Can anyone help with the service history of 4th prototype Javelin WT830 after its service with A&AEE? According to the Testors model instructions it went to 46 Sqn (though the decal sheet has markings for 23 Sqn). If it did reach squadron service was it modified to have the clear canopy over both cockpits and was it ever fitted with cannon and radar?

Yours aye

As far as I’m aware, s.o.c. stands for struck off charge, when she serves no further use and the RAF either donate her to a museum or sell her for scrap, usually the latter!

The SOC date is the date on which the RAF removes the aircraft from their books. Often the aircraft could have disappeared weeks or months before this date.

Best wishes

Don’t know the meaning of the abbreviations 7485M and s.o.c. …

WT830 Javelin To 7485M 15/11/1957, s.o.c. 11/12/1962

As Cranswick states, 7485M is the maintenance serial allocated to that particular airframe when it was sent for ground instructional duties. As far as I’m aware, s.o.c. stands for struck off charge, when she serves no further use and the RAF either donate her to a museum or sell her for scrap, usually the latter!

WT830

According to the Air-Britain WA-WZ serial book it was only with Glosters and A&AEE (Boscombe Down). ‘7845M’ is a maintenance serial number – allocated to indicate the aircraft had been designated as a non-flying airframe ie. for use as a ground training aid.

WT830 I don’t believe it went to a Squadron . It went to Halton on 14.11.57 as a ground instruction airframe.
