Advice needed: looking for a T1154 + sending it in the UK

Hi all,

I needs some advice.

I am looking for a T1154 in reasonable external condition in the UK and
if one is available for purchase/swap to have it sent to a North Lincolnshire address. Any leads and/or advice?

Please PM me if you can help.

Cheers

Those 1154s are rare over here too, last one on the “bay” sold about a month ago for 800 pounds, so I would hate to pay for post as well.

Just in case anyone is in the market, if anyone is looking for a T1154 and an R1155 (plus maybe another slightly modified R1155 set) PM me with a personal email address and I can send through some photos. A couple of big cub bills loom on the skyline and I’m just trying to plan ahead!

Another case for a for sale thread on here!!!!!

No worries, it just seems theres often quite a bit of difference between what people pay for things and what they are actually worth. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for people to have the things that I’m selling, and if they definatley need some thing for a project, I’d always try and help them out if i could.

A65s are not a collectable engine, if it doesn’t run, its not really any good to anybody. I don’t really have the sums of cash to go and buy an overhauled one, and a time ex one is a risk. However it gets a lot less risky when its worth only a few hundred pounds.

Then again with a realistic head on, there are things that i need too. I’m heartbroken to sell the stuff, however, if i manage to generate enough money to finish the cub without having to sell too much of my collection, then I’m laughing!

I’m slowing down with all the ebay stuff, as someone pointed out, if all the items end within a couple of days, i’m going to have a real busy time down the post office! More will follow later today and during tomorrow, then I have to go back to work 🙁

I think £100 for a R1155 is on the low side, personally.

I’d expect £125-£200, dependant upon condition, originality, model number, etc.

I think you’d be looking at around £325-£350 for a good T1154.

J switch – c.£75-£100.

Jones plugs (with jackets) – I’ve seen them go for £60 each on that site.

Bath tub morse key without cracks, chips, etc £40.

Trailing aerial winch – £100 minimum if complete.

Dayum, that lot at War And Peace is starting to look cheap – I shoud’ve had it!

Actually I have an 1155 which I would part with to a good home for a swapsie!

Seems then, that an 1154 is ‘worth’ in the region of £4-600 on the basis that an 1155 is worth about a ton….

Blimey I’m out of touch!

Was going to pick up a MkIII SMLE to replace one I sold years ago which I picked up for about £60, at Beltring the cheapest I could find was £295, not the £100-150 I was expecting!!

I think everyone overestimates the value of an A65. What I am after is a Time Ex (2000hr) A65 with the books. Total value no more than £500. I am currently trying to extract two from owners here in the UK, one however wants to fit one in a kitplane, and the other is being offered as a spare along with another aircraft.

A zero time overhauled A65 with books is worth about £3000, bearing in mind parts and labour are £2500 of that typically, I think that would be a fair swap.

I have seen some extortionately high prices for A65s, those same engines are still for sale.

The reason I’m after a time ex one, I hold Continental approval on my engineeing licence and can do the top end myself. A local company is happy to do the lower end, something I don’t hold authorisation for.

The other swap option was the propeller. The propeller is not high in value, it is however high in shipping from the USA. If someone had an example in Europe, then again, that would be a fair swap.

As with all things, you never know until you ask.

With 1155s now reaching over £100 I hate to think what a ’54 will cost you… they are quite sought after by museums and collectors as with a ’55 and a bathtub key you have a ready made W/OP display.

A T1154, R1155 plus an assortment of Jones plugs, a J switch, bath tub morse key etc sold for £700.00 at the recent War And Peace Show.

Everything appeared to be in very nice order, and I think the price was about right.

I’m thinking of parting with my T1154, but I appear to have arrived too late!

Probably a good thing Cees – think FB’s swapsie (A65 with logs) might have been a bit imbalanced for a 54/55 set up!!! 😮 🙂

😀

We have Johns ‘spare’ 1154 on loan in the Museum actually! 🙂

Yes Cees – 1154s are rather hard to find unlike 1155s which seem to turn up just about anywhere.

😮 😮
Didn’t know that these things are so sought after in the UK. Over the years I have had three of these. I do have a complete T1154/R1155 set at home but due to the weight of the Transmitter I was thinking that sending one within the UK might be cheaper, which it isn’t:D 😮

The T1154 in Holland is relatively easy to find if you know where to look.

In the meantime I have worked out a deal, so my problems are solved. Sorry FB that I can’t help you with your needs. I’m sure you find what you are looking for in the end.

Cheers

Cees Broere, do you want to PM me with either a budget idea or potential swapsies. I have a 99% complete T1154 and 95% R1155 set that many years ago I got damn well near working. Both were going to be items of my collection that I did intend to keep, however I could be persuaded if the price or offer was right. All that they are missing are the large block fuses that fit on the front and if I remember correctly, the locking arm that holds them in place. Otherwise they are completely mint without even any corrosion. They are currently stored near Oxford, I can get photographs within the next couple of weeks.

( I will instantly swap, even deliver it straight to you if you have a complete spare continental A65, with logbooks)

Is a T1154 in good condition a particularly rare unit then?

FB

I know the square root of bu**er all about radios but I do remember being told (by the aircraft radio man John Coggins I think) that the transmitters are far more rare than the recievers.

The reason – when all the mountains of WD surplus were being disposed of in the years after WW2 people would buy the receivers because they could use them to, well, receive thus plenty survived. The transmitters few people except, perhaps, radio hams wanted them so most were scrapped.

Ahh…. ‘my first avionic kit’ as seen in Lancs, halibags, etc… If memory serves, we had one at an air cadet unit I used to frequent. I’ll ask…. but don’t pin your hopes on it…

:p

A T1154 transmitter (you know, with the red, blue and yellow knobs) as used in Bomber Command, Coastal Command etc together with the Receiver R1155.
