Hi all
I’ve overhauled my Right hand L4H gear leg, but I need a left hand one. Its an exact mirror image of this one. Now I’ve found a couple of super cub ones, but these are different (slightly different size) plus the axle is longer on a super cub and it has a square bracket for the brake caliper, whereas i need the one with the round bracket (for the drum brakes).
Now somewhere someone mut either have one, or maybe even seen one. Any hints or leads, please get in touch.

Of all the current manufacturers of cub replacement parts, I would say that I would heavily not recommend the company mentioned in a recent post. Experience of myself and others have found their products not really to be of suitable quality or accuracy to use in a project like mine. Purely personally , I do believe that Univair, although by far the most expensive, have the best quality and durable parts…..
….but they are bloody expensive!

L4 leg
Hello
I have a large inventory of Piper J3 Cub parts all used however as you state shipping a gear leg from N America will be costly.
I also have the bungee struts and many other parts.
If you rae interested , please send me a list of your needs.
Thanks

Thank you for the warbird resource website, I was not aware of their existance and will therefore be posting on there shortly.
Thanks Blue Robin, but I’ve had some friend contacts via supercub.org, its not come to much of use, but still interesting.
J3-cub.com and cub-club.com are also very good sites. with the dollar as it is buying most items from the states seems to be the way forward.
However shipping of legs across the pond makes larger items cost prohibitive, although I am learning ways.
I’m trying to avoid new manufacture of parts, smaller parts maybe, but not legs. For some reason though there does appear to be an abundance of RH legs available, but not left – no idea why.
If a leg, or bungee struts don’t appear soon, i’ll move on to the tailfeathers, but really I can’t progress much more without these critical parts. If aanyone sees something lurking in the backs of hangars – please bear me in mind.

Alternatively, we could always talk about the floor!

http://www.supercub.org/phpbb2/ is a mine of information for all things Cub and not just solely for Supercubbers

My yes, a truely lovelly plane to fly, absolute delight. Unfortunately it seems that it doesn’t really interest people enough as its “just a cub” as I’ve been told on occasions. Its not pointy enough, not loud enough, not quick enough to keep people interested. However it is still a warbird, (or warbug more correctly).
The aim has always been to rebuild to an as “stock wartime” condition as possible, and indeed, we’ve got nearly all the period items we need. To keep this in the eyes of the fellow enthusiasts just helps keep the project going, and hopefully when its finished, the coverage I will try drum up will highlight the roles that his little plane did to those that are unaware.
It needs parts tho, and i can only spread the word a certain distance. It needs others to help pass on this info too.

Cant help with the leg I’m afraid but just thought I’d mention that I will walk past a whole line of WW2 kids toys and go straight to a Cub – I love’um. I have been the butt of more than one comment at Duxford when I’ve hardly stirred during displays / arrivals of various warbirds (P51’s, Bearcat, Blenheim etc) only to then start jumping around in circles when a Cub or Chipmunk appears in the circuit. 😀

Looking at your pics FB(My Mrs loves your floor BTW:D ),would it not be possible to find an engineering drawing of or even dimension the round bracket and get a friendly machine shop to turn one up for you?
Surely one of the fellows on here knows of such a place?

Right with all seriousness guys and gals.
I still really really am in need of a LH undercarriage leg opposite to the one pictured at the start of this thread. Also both pairs of bungee struts.
Really becoming an issue now and soon will be holding up the restoration. If anybody as any leads at all, no matter how slim, please please please get in touch.
Cheers in great and wantan anticipation

Slap 3 bazooka mock-ups under each wing, call her a “Panzer Buster” complete with pyrotechnics and make it a hit at the show! Or you can “dogfight” a Storch. With enough wind across the airfield you could fly backwards too. My uncle flew one in North Africa, he caught the plane bug from it and never did stop flying!

Cheers, its a bit extreme and off track, but if its popular and it finds me an undercarriage leg, I’ll happily climb on the roof and do a chimney internal if someone asks for it!*

*requester will first have to prove ownership and condition of undercarriage leg!

Any chance of seeing a pic of the floor and fireplace together?
If you really want, my humble front room….
And before anyone says, yes I need to frame and hang the pictures in the corner. Got a beautiful one there of a Lancaster over Derwent Dams signed by the surviving members of 617 Sqn back in 1993. Thats going pride of place up in the office….

I realise that my cub is no Fouga, or Heinkel
You’re kidding right? I love it! I wish I had one to play with 🙂

Actually no, I wanted oak, but I just couldn’t afford 16 square metres of it for the sittingroom floor. I was lucky to find a timber mill and reclaimers here in Sussex. they did me a very good deal on the last of this 400 year old pine (my house is c250 years old). I used the unworn side and sanded back with 400 grit. B&Q do a really good antique pine floor wax to enhance the colour, which is where I should have stopped. However as the girlie and I try to have friends over fairly regularly, I decided to float some diamond hard floor varnish to seal it against, wine/beer/dribble etc. The contrast in floor colour wasn’t so prenounced after the wax, however when I first applied the floor varnish (matt finish) it really did highlight the difference. I must admit I didn’t really like it at the start but over the last 6 months its toned down a bit and now I’m really happy with it. Can well recomend these products to anyone wishing to do the same. I’ve got an open fire too, and the varnish seems to stop burning when it spits – marvelous stuff!

Floor does look very nice, is it oak?
By: Fournier Boy - 25th July 2007 at 21:48
Thanks, I laid it myself earlier this year, came from some renovations at City Hospital in London. Its the only thing in my house that is fairly bland enough to photograph against.
I realise that my cub is no Fouga, or Heinkel, but its still worth restoring, and has an interesting combat history, an area not featured on the airshow circuit. Hopefully someone out there has the parts to help me get it in the air. Fingers crossed it will become fairly recognised in a couple of seasons time.
