Ladies & gentleman,
I was wondering if any you excellent photographers out there might happen to have on your computers a photo of a 74 Sqn Lightning F6 with a silver fuselage & black tail fin as Im building a model one at the moment but I cant find any on the net other than early Mks. I assure you it will not appear on any websites as its just so I can paint my model properly and if u want reassurance that I am building models then Ive recently posted over on “RC & Models” my latest builds. TIA Bex

I think I prefer all metal finish with wing tanks. Can’t remember when this was taken
Seeing as they already have the ‘overburgers’ fitted, I’d guess sometime just prior to 74’s 13 x F.6’s departing for Singapore on June 4th 1967.
And there’s ‘773 in the shot as well…..:D

Well the model is complete and undercoated, I still havent decided on the wing tanks yet. Once shes finished she will be verticle (ish) on the ceiling until I get my Victor K2 built then she will be moved along with my Buccaneer for air 2 air refuel across the ceiling :d I havent told the other half about this yet LoL Once completed she will be posted over on Models with my others.
TO all who have provided info & photos, Im very grateful for all your help.
Bex

F6 of 74 Sqn Aug 1970 Singapore. XR773 which I believe now belongs to Mike Beachyhead. Bex
Yes, ‘773 now flying out of Cape Town might well have the distinction of the most world travelled Lightning, having operated with 74 in Singapore and been flown around various locations in the Far East before being flown back to Cyprus via Gan, for handing over to 56 Sqn.
Oh it may posssibly hold the Lightning altitude record as well……:D
There are some nice colour shots in some Lightning books of XR773 on the long flight back to Cyprus in 1971 that accompany an article written by pilot, Dave Roome, who had ‘773 as ‘his’ aircraft while with 74 Sqn during this time. Dave Roome is currently I believe one of Kemble based, Delta Jets pilots.
Edit:-
Just remembered some of Dave Roome’s photo’s are on the net….

74 Sqn began to exchange its F3s for F6s in August 1966, being the first squadron to receive full production-standard aircraft. The first was XR768 which arrived on August 1.

Brilliant, thanks Papa Lima Im glad I decided to ask for a pic, getting a Lighting History lesson on the side out of it. Thanks again Bex
