Well in that case, snippets of possible interest copied from old correspondence:
Did see another 5 Condors following morning but HMS Sheffield and Scylla
kept them at bay with their high-angle 5.25s
Never saw any others during my short stay with 609 but did have shock of my
life while evading close to river Seine when a couple of 190’s roared right
over me with zero feet on the clock.
I served during the later stages of
the unit and am not really qualified to give definitive answers.
I would think that Dartmouth, NS, would have had quite a number of aircraft
on hand, just as we had at Gibraltar, with relative maintenance crews. On
arrival there, we launched off and reloaded on the catapult when we were
scheduled to sail again.
Robert Jackson’s “Hawker Hurricane”(ISBN 0 7137 1683 5), page 111, Chapter
7, Operations at Sea appears to be fairly authoritative and he denotes TJ as
being MSFU code letter. Really, we had so many old banged-up Hurricanes for
training with different codes I would have to accept his statement.
Unfortunately, my log book quotes only serial numbers.
Curiously enough, Z4866, which I left buried in the Atlantic is listed on
page 153 as being one of “Eleven aircraft despatched for service with the
Soviet Air Force”. How it finished up aboard “Empire Darwin” I’ll never
know.

Coincidentally, 609 later had a Hurricane hack. They had a couple actually, one of which Jimmy flew in while with MSFU:
V7166 Third production batch of 1,700 aircraft built by Gloster Aircraft
> Co Ltd, Brockworth 1940-41. Contract 85730/40/C.23a. Metal wings, Merlin
> III engine. Production divided into four production runs: Part I:

> MSFU. 22/05/1942 P/O D. Reynolds, uninjured, stalled at 30 feet; crashed
> onto runway damaging the propeller, engine, undercarriage and main planes.

pps – after shooting down the Condor? Jimmy was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Caterpillar Club and Goldfish Club badges plus a free posting.
