hi all,
now that i have delivered the profile to JDK, i thought i should let you all see it.
this Hudson is a very special one, it was used for agent dropping, and as such was very camera shy.
we know she was carrying standard bomber colours, the nose guns were removed, anything else we don’t have a clue about,
here is the info James posted on my site,
“The profile John’s working on is the 161 (Special Duties) Sqn Hudson flown by RCAF pilot Flt Lt Warren ‘Sugar’ Hale who was killed in the aircraft just before D-Day when attempting to drop agents over Holland. He, his crew, and the agents were all killed when the aircraft was shot down over Gilze-Rijen Luftwaffe base. Most of the crew are buried in the Canadian cemetery at Bergen op Zoom. Warrie Hale was my wife’s great uncle, and it is a fascinating, if sad story piecing together his varied, and short career.
In memory of:
Flight Lieutenant WARREN MACAULAY HALE, RCAF
Flying Officer ARTHUR GEORGE MASKALL DFM RAFVR
Flying Officer JOHN GALL DFC, RNZAF
Flying Officer MICHAEL HENRY HUGHES RAFVR
SOE Agents:
Jan Kuenen
Cees Dekkers
now i have finished the profile i am doing a few quesswork additions, we don’t know how the agents were dropped, we know some hudsons had the ventral gun removed and the agents slid down the ramp, we also know that some Hudsons in Australia had the cabin door removed, and the jumpers left the aircraft in a normal manner.
so i am doing two more profiles, one without the cabin door and one with the ventral chute, please bear in mind that these will be pure quesswork.
anyway here is the main one, now finished.
my thanks to all those that helped us in this task.
(hope this one ain’t to big moggy)
