I enjoyed 2 or 3 flights, with Dan Air and someone else, in the erly 60s. Fond memories of the aircraft and of course the visibility, esoecially as one of the flights up to Newcastle was on a bright clear winter’s day.
It’s been marbellous watching the restorationn take place over the years at Duxford.

David, KLM led the way with their investigations, as did Canada airlines, the UK did their own but later, after the Board of Enquiry. KLM’s results were quite definite. This is all explained in the following details on my munich pages:
http://www.mikekemble.com/misc/munich.html and was authenticated by Capt Rayments son after reading it. also by Stanley Stewart, who wrote the book. Included in my pages are the full transcript of the radio converstations between aircraft and tower.

A couple of scans from an old Airspeed promo brochure, I think the Munich machine had the higher 40+ seat layout, rather than the 28.

The majority of research into the effects of slush on runways was carried out in the U.K after the incident.

apparently the Munich crash was caused by the drag coefficient (or something) of the deep slush was equal to the thrust of the props. Hence, no take off. The tests were conducted by KLM and airlines in Canada following the crash and they all came up with the same result.
This was adopted by the worlds airlines in their training etc abut only the Germans refused to accept this, and still don’t because it places the blame on them and they still refuse to accept fault.

Seeing as they are in the possession of the last remaining one, I’d suggest that The Duxford Aviation Society are a good place to start.

Interesting pics Keith
It’s sort of displayed or was then.
An improvement on a pic I saw with a basic livery but stripped and looking hidden away.
They seem to have made it look presentable in it’s present form. At least it is preserved until the means to complete and re assemble are found.

Crossing the county line again Keith? The spray job would have been quicker in Norwich! 😉

Hi Rui
The last I heard of the Duxford Ambassador was that it was still in bits amd not very accessable, tucked up in the back of a hangar:(
Perhaps someone has an update??

I’d be the one asking for this.
been waiting for my account activation to say Thank you fellas for the help.
I’ve now gathered enough information and sent it to the gentleman
, a dear friend of mine, who will eventually start doing the model for Flight Simulator.
I’m ecstatic about this, neethless to say.I’m even considering a visit to Duxford, and would love to know if I’d be allowed to take pictures of the aircraft, several aspects, like landing gears, cockpit panel, etc, these could be used as photoreal material on the FS model.A reference to the museum would be included as well.
Thank you all again.
yours,
rui cristina

Ah, my favourite aircraft (at least one of them!) I’ve tried to scan and attach a decent detailed photograph of the cockpit for you but the file size limit seems to have been exceeded and I cannot attached it to this forum message.
Drop me a private message with your e-mail address and I’ll send via e-mail.
