Memphis Belle markings

Which is the significance of stars to the top of the bombs ?

I believed that that corresponded to the country of the target, but that does not seem to be that. Suggestions ?

Thanks

Fred

Yellow stars are for group lead ship and red stars are for wing lead ship.

IIRC the stars were for targets in Germany and red centers were higher priority military targets, but I am probably wrong!
