Hi
The following message was left on my website recently. It sounds like an AM bombing trainer, I’ve not come across a description of the internal workings before, or the name “Jordan” asssociated with this type of thing. I was wandering if he was referring to a synthetic navigation trainer but these tended to be in maycrete type huts with a block at one end for projection onto, his mention of the tall building suggests the bomb trainer. Any thoughts etc most welcome, below;
At Coningsby I experianced a bombing raid in a tall building, I recall it
was known as the Jordan trainer, I have tried hard to find more info on this
marvelous contraption. It certainly was not a film. 30 or so people were
seated in a circle over a large funnel in cast off Manchester fuselage seats
with helmets on, a recording was played from a master bomber of a real raid.
A circular section at the bottom of the funnel with hundreds of electrical
contacts revolved slowly, Lights out and you would swear you were listening
to the master bomber giving instructions, such as ,bomb on the grees, ignore
the reds etc. any info you have would be appreciated.

The RAAF had a Celestial “Navigation” Trainer A63-1, at East Sale in a narrow circular two storey building.
I assume this was based on AM “Bomb Training” designs? the Friends of the RAAF Museum magazine had an excellent article on it with photos and a technical cutaway from a manual, I am sure JDK could lay his hands on a copy to scan in a couple of pics>

This would be a Crew Procedure Training building, sometimes known as an Airmanship Hall. Quite a few survive around the country on former Instructional Sites. The Bombing Trainer was two-storey and relatively small in comparison. I’m sure someone can come up with much more detail. I seem to remember that Murray Peden’s book A Thousand Shall Fall has a detailed description of a procedure exercise.
