They were flying it into a 460m long strip, with a tailwind!
There are forumites here that wouldn’t even try that with a Cub! 😮
Mind you these guys are a pretty awesome bunch of aviators. Take a look at the accident report for their previous Carvair loss!

This accident could so easily have taken lives… The crew were lucky to walk away!

Sad to hear of 898’s demise, although most importantly, the crew are apparently all OK.

That means that this one, N98FA, otherwise known as Fat Annie, is the last one flying. Apparently she earns her keep moving bits of drilling equipment from Texas around the southern US states.
A wonderful, if oily old beast!

Oh dear- this on top of their C-54 loss in January, when an engine caught fire, and the aeroplane made an emergency landing in the tundra, and one wing was consumed by fire. A tough environment which takes its toll.

Sad news, wish this had been an old story………..:( The plane was restored in 2004.
