Thanks for the TR.37 details, the original order of 26 agrees with the serial
allocation of VT724 to 749. It sounds like the order was cut in stages, from
26 down to 6 and most references have missed the decision(s) to cut it
below 14.

The production reports state all 50 aircraft ordered as TR.33, TW227 to 257
and 277 to 295 were built as TR.33. So TW240, which was the first TR.33 to
have folding wings and improved undercarriage, was officially converted to a
TR.37, not built as such. TR.33 production was from November 1945 to April
1947 and if done in serial order TW240 would have been built in January
1946. TR.37 production of 6 aircraft, which would be VT724 to 729, was
from March to July 1948.

That agrees with Sturtivant and is most probably the correct answer.
