Hello all,
working on Matchbox´s Spitfire F22 I noticed a strange crank handle on the starboard sidewall. Checking my books, it seems to be called the “hood winding gear”. Am I correct in assuming, that´s only a feature on low-back-Spitfires? Is it really the only way to close the hood by cranking that lever?
Being honest, I always expected the hood to be closed by hand, similar to high-back-Spitfires.

All low back Spitfires with teardrop canopies together with the rear canopy of the two seaters have the crank wind closing feature.
When shutting the canopy from outside an external button is used to disengage the dog drive.
