Info. request about P.O.W. camp transfers.

The attached piece of paperwork refers to the transfer of R.A.F. P.O.W.’s from Fallingbostel to Sagan on 22/1/45. The third listed is my father.

I am hoping the forum can answer some questions for me.

What is the meaning of the letters and numbers proceeding the P.O.W.’s names?

What is the name of the second P.O.W. number 2194?

Is it possible to tell who signed the document?

David,

The numbers refer to either huts and rooms or huts and bunks. These are listed out in the registers held at Kew showing where the POW’s were kept. I have my Father’s referance details but not others but will check them out when l am next there. This may confirm the situation for you.

Regards,

Nick

Hi David,

Not specifically filtered for L6 (Stalag Luft VI) but all the PoW residents March/April 1944 are given on the following list

perhaps those numbers are the date they arrived, or the dates they were transferred. perhaps they are a reference to the hut and compound they were in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think we can discount the numbers being dates. Hut and compound is certainly a possibility. Also the numbers could relate to transportation allocation for the transfer.

Thanks Ross. Is the roster of Luft 6 available? Are other camps rosters available?

Is there a roster of Luftwaffe personnel at Luft 6 that would determine who signed the paper?

I think the “C” means Canadian although my father W.H. Layne was English. I am still puzzled by the numbers 5/7 6/3 6/6 and 6/7.

I have managed to come up with the second listed name. D.G. Mullock, RCAF.

Can anyone help me with the remainder?
