England? There were 2 Scotsmen running the Major maintenance on PA474 at Coventry which helped get the aircraft to the big reveal and to Holland on time. A large majority of the groundcrew that worked on the Phantom during the war were also from Scotland. I think British would have been more appropriate.
Don’t worry, they made their mark – I’m amazed no-one else noticed the authentic RScoAF markings on the wing topsides 😀
(with apologies to Doughnut!!)

Those comments that Fluffy has posted, serve as a fantastic reminder to those who helped the Dutch 60 years ago,and show the high regard that the RAF have in Holland.
It’s nice to see that we in England do something right, that the rest of the world look on in envy.

I saw this afternoon the impressive flypast of your Lancaster over the crash site in the village of Berkhout.
I will thank the BBMF and the crew for this flypast and I hope that we will see the Lancaster again in the sky of Holland.
Netherlands
This afternoon we were watching the BBMF’s Lancaster fly-past over Bergen Cemetery (North Holland) to remember operation Manna, and the fallen airmen of WWII.
At extremely low altitude (Guy Gibson couldn’t have done better!) the BBMF pilots gave a very impressive show. It enabled me to take some beautiful pictures.
Many thanks and save landings!
We were this afternoon at location near Ursem, it was great to see the Lancaster flying over our heads, thanks to the crew and the BBMF. Our children at the age of 4 and 8 loved it.
See you again in the Netherlands.
Just over an hour ago, I had the pleasure of watching your magnificent plane make a flypass over the field of Berkhout, in memory of an aircrew that died when their bomber was shot down over this little dutch village. With a clear sky she could be seen very well; making a very big impression.
The combination of keeping this impressive historic plane in the air; as both a symbol of aviation history and as memory to all the men who lost their lives over europe, is something that has got my full respect.
Keep her flying; and hopefully we will see her in the future over dutch skies. Thanks!!!!

I have just lifted these comments from our BBMF website I think these sum up the job we do.
Cheers Fluffy

Do you have time and place where the Lancaster will cross the coast line on its way home. It would make a great picture.
Interesting point. If I were flying at a similar height and a parallel course, how close would current air law allow me to fly to another aircraft (for instance to take photos)? That’s assuming it wasn’t a pre-arranged photo session.
