Hurricane at Duxford Yesterday (20 April)

I spied this Hurricane being rolled out of the hangar at Area 51 yesterday afternoon. Could someone ID it please? Is it a new restoration or a repaint to an existing Hurricane?

Yes the all black Ian Gleed night fighter scheme was great and also very popular but time moves on and people get bored of seeing the same thing time after time, you only have to read on this forum how the scheme changes that have occured on the BBMFs Spitfires, the Lancaster and the Shuttleworths Gladiator have been recieved. If an historic fighter isn’t painted in its original service colours (as Spitfire MH434 is) then the licence to paint it sky blue pink if the owner wishes is a valid one.

Here endeth the first lesson!!!!

Look on it this way – when was the last time anyone had the chance to see an airworthy Hurricane in the green/grey camouflage scheme with the earlier fuselage roundel?

Regards,

Dan

Agreed.

That’s probably why I like it more than the old scheme! 🙂

Great job Roobarb, and thanks for the info.

Either way it looks pretty good, and I’m pleased that it is still staying in the UK.

Flt Sgt Graham Robertson 402 Sqn RCAF based at RAF Rochford (now Southend Airport) September 22nd 1941 just after shooting down a Bf109 over Beachy Head. BD707 coded AE-C with one victory marking on pt side of cockpit. Sorry some of you don’t like it and preferred it black. At least you had a good few years to enjoy it in that scheme. The new owner is very pleased with the scheme I drew up for him and that is what matters. It’s also a great deal more authentic than its previous 402 scheme as AE-K. I’m glad some of you do like it though. 🙂

It would appear to me to be a 402 Sqn scheme.

Correct Eddie – I will let Roobarb spill the beans on the background to this one as its not my show (you will have to wait another month or so for my effort)!

Breighton is not far from me and i always go to the airshow and open days there, i think its a shame it will no longer be based at Breighton, like the new paint work though

Hi Mark V,

By new identity I meant paint scheme. Whose aircraft does she represent?

Hi,

Anyone know her new identity?

Alex – its the same aircraft (G-HURR). She does not have a new ‘identity’ just a new paint scheme! Owned by Spitfire Ltd.

Hi,

Anyone know her new identity? I took the following photos at RAF Leuchars, oh must be about 10 years ago. Is this the same Hurri? It’s the only one I know that was black.

I spied her too!,
running her engine and tucked away between the workshop and the M11 on Thursday at about 11:40 Am, sounded bootiful:)

My guess is it is the former Real Aeroplane Company example (G-HURR), now with Spitfire Ltd. 😉

I must say, she looks very nice indeed and thanks for posting the pic! 🙂
