Hi all, just joined the forum and first post, i love old warbirds so i guess i will spend most time on here in the historic section.
i thought i would start with some pictures i took in AF (Kabul) around September of last year, basically the story goes that the Italian AF found a couple of old Italian warbirds from about the 1920 era out in the bondu somewhere and recovered them back to Italy (by C-130) for restoration projects (they were hoping to get two rebuilt). They werent sure on the aircraft types but they were convinced that they were Italian built, I had a look around the airframes but there were no identifying marks/plates to be seen.
I left in the first week in Dec and as I boarded my flight I spotted what looked like possibly 3 more wrecks in their hangar stored for future return, anyway i dont know how many they ended up with or if any of you guys are aware of the find, but here is the pics i took just before they were loaded to the aircraft.
I thought i took some pics before they dismantled them and loaded them onto pallets, but i cant seem to locate them at the mo.
Anyway i hope someone finds them interesting.

They don’t look like Fiat 3000…er…targets to me.
Seem to be regular Renault FT-17 tanks.
Not that rare but there isn’t one in the UK…yet!

The Italians to the A/C and it looks like the US Army took 1 tank
A junkyard around Kabul shows 2 Ft17 Renault (in bad shape….). The US has taken one (of the two) to the ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND museum. 2 more FT17 have also been found by my source and are in a far better shape, bringing the total to 4. It is argued that these tanks are Fiat 3000, FT17 build by Italy after WW1. The road wheel assembly on the Fiat looks different when compared to the 4 tanks displayed below, Compare the shapes of the sprocket and lower road wheel assembly beam.

IIRC Guy Black stated that he had enough projects on his hands and that the Hinds were free for the taker (bar the minefields).
It would be intrigueing to know who did it. But it is great news that they have been recovered.

just as an added snippet, all the wrecks that were scattered around Kabul airfield have all gone (cleared away), dunno what happened to them, but definitely gone.

Also there was a photograph posted on another forum only a few days ago of the RO 37 (remains) that was repatriated to Italy on display at Vigna di Valle awaiting restoration.
