On the second May Bank Holiday weekend, I noticed on the BBMF website, the Lancaster is scheduled to appear at East Lancs Railway, Bury, for three consecutive days of the weekend (the 26th, 27th and on the 28th with a Spitfire and Hurricane on the 28th too!). I notice that it is also appearing at the Isle of Man TT races on the 26th. My query is, is it going to travel back to Conningsby after each appearance, or is it maybe going to stick around in Lancashire, for example at Blackpool airport for a few days? It just seems like a big journey to carry out three days in a row….or maybe not?
Ps – Bury is about half an hour down the road from me….so…..
+ I went to Flying Legends last year (3 to 4 hour journey) on the Saturday, only to realise the Lanc wasn’t scheduled to appear on the Saturday (d’oh!)…..
+ then went to Sunderland (2 and a half hours journey) and it cancelled its appearance due to technical difficulties (or more likely weather)…..
+ Then went to Southport (where poor weather again reared its ugly head and forced a cancellation)….
….I like the fact that the Lanc is making 3 appearances very near to my house over 3 successive days when I missed it 3 times last year!
Anyone got any news on Walney 2007?
Thanks :@)

The only information about MZ348 D-Dog that I can find, according to the book,’Yorkshire airfields in the second world war’ it reads thus:
51 Squadron was to lose it’s last aircraft on operations from Snaith on 21st March 1945 on rail yards at Rheine,MZ348 being one of two aircraft from a force of 178 Lancasters and Halifaxes which failed to return.

I’m sure that there will be an official explanation somewhere, but my own thoughts after reading it,were that they went down on the raid, were captured by either German soldiers,or the Gestapo, and were shot.:(

Very nice memorial.
Just curious…
What were the circumstances of the death of the crew of MZ 348 D-Dog?

Davski is right, there is a memorial garden at the site, and very nice it is too.
I made a trip over there, about an hour ago,and there isn’t any mention of Sunday, but even though they’ve probably been published a thousand times,I couldn’t resist getting my camera out.
Enjoy……….

How tragic:

It would seem though, that tragedy was everywhere:

How very sad:

Indeed:

I believe that there’s a memorial garden at what remains of RAF Snaith/Pollington and that former 51 Sqd members have a reunion/gathering there. I would imagine the Lanc’ will be saluting that. Sunday BBMF flypasts are usually flown during the afternoon – I’m told it has something to do with not wanting to upset sunday morning worshippers. You could try phoning RAF Coningsby for timings (I’ve done that before) but I know from personal experience (Breighton 2004 – I think you were there Benyboy) that flypast timings can sometimes be changed at the last minute.

Update:
I’m guessing it will be here:

But I’m still at a loss for the time.I know one thing,it’s still fairly visible from the M62,as the home for a company called Northern Straw.
