Aircraft names and places (Merged with a zombie)

Attached is a snap from a recent trip to Berlin. Any other street names in the world have an aviation theme?

I believe there is an Avro Road, a Bristol Road and a Vickers Road somewhere in the vicinity of Southend Airport.

In the local town, Wangen in Allgau, we have Zeppelinstraße and Immelmannstraße.

Zeppelin is understandable as the factory is in Friedrichshafen about fifty kilometres away. However, both streets are in an area with many WWI location names (Pflanderstraße, etc.).

thanks for that 🙂 i never really took the time when i was at school there for two years to have a look round for aviation related road names, though it is odd about harwell considering that it was basically the birthplace of the uk nuclear industry, built on an old raf station. ill ask my dad, he lives not far from there.

There are a couple of references to the Nuclear Research Industry in Didcot….Cockcroft Rd and Rutherford Place

I work for Royal Mail as a postie and my patch is Chilton(about 4-5 miles south of Didcot).Chilton parish(..& my delivery) includes Severn Road which is 1 dozen houses built in the 1960s alongside the southern end of the N-S runway of RAF Harwell….indeed most of RAF Harwell airfield lies in the parish of Chilton and that was the intended name of the station. The Station Commander’s house was just over the border in Harwell parish and he insisted the station be called RAF Harwell

i know there are quite a few aircraft related street names in some of the villages that surround Raf benson,

in reference to the didcot claim, not to forget that on the downs about 15 miles south there were bombing ranges, with Raf harwell to the south west. i figure that some of the street names could have come from aircraft? also im pretty sure that the powerstation that scars the oxfordshire land was built on a MOD site, as well as the army barracks at the west of didcot towards the A34

Didcot does have a few(though the aviation connection may be co-incidental??)

BLENHEIM Close
BEAUFORT Close
WESSEX Road
SANDRINGHAM Road
WINDSOR Close(..& WINDSOR Crescent in nearby East Hagbourne)
VIKING Drive
TRENT Road
DART Drive

In near-by West Hagbourne there’s a YORK Road while North Moreton has a BEAR(as in Tu-95) Lane

Perhaps surprisingly Harwell does not have any aviation related street names

A small estate adjacent to Barton Aerodrome Manchester contains………
….Avian Close….
Planemike

In the late 1960’s I helped push the fuselage of Northern A.P.S.’s Avian G-EBZM (now on exhibition at Manchester MSI) from their store/workshop (Peel Green?) to Barton to be displayed at an air display there. I took photos of it as we passed Avian Close.

A suburb of Dunedin called Waldronville has 7 street names:

Delta Drive
Dakota Place
Canberra Place
Viscount Road
Valiant Road
Vampire Road
and Vulcan Road.

The next road on the way to Dunedin city is called Friendship Drive.

All were intentionally named for Aviation.
