I have recently acquired an old photo album which includes the attached image. The rear says ‘Wreckage of American Flying Fortress shot down by ack-ack on way back to Italy 1944. It’s mounted in the middle of some photos taken in Austria at war’s end- but that could be a red herring.
So Fortress freaks- any ideas as to its identity? ( If you cant make it out the partial serial is ‘46351’).

Thanks, I’ve dropped them a line to see if they want a decent scan for their archives. If they have more info I’ll post it later.

Here’s a link for you to maybe try…
http://www.301bg.com/Contact_us.cfm
The 301st BG flew its first missions as part of the 8th AF, Bomber Command, in England. They were transferred to the newly created 12th AF and sent to North Africa in November of 1942. In October of 1943 the 12th AF was merged into the new 15th AF. The 301st BG completed the war in Europe attached to the 15th Air Force.
