Hello,
I am hoping to locate a photograph of the famous loop by 22 Hunter a/c at the Farnborough Airshow of 1958. (Still a record today) and offer a little background info.
Performed by the Black Arrows of Treble One Sqn in a bid to eclipse the Pakistan Air Force’s loop of 16 F86’s. As they could only muster 16 a/c 65 Sqn. helped them out (which is the bit I am interested in) as an item for our association newsletter. Hoping that someone can oblige,
Regards – Laz.

Thanks for your reply Albert, and with your permission would like to use the photo.I bow to your superior knowledge on this one but refer you to our website. www.olddux.org ( Newsletter link.) The item by John Quarterman lists XE656-R as one of ours (Not shown on the webpage) but included here.
As you say a/c can be subtituted at the last minute for a multitide of reasons.
Cheers for now,
Laz

Here is that photo of the Black Arrows 22 X Hunter loop at Farnborough in September ’58. Apparently 65 Squadron was not one of the Squadrons used.
You can see the eight borrowed Hunters here, which are XF526,XF515,XF424 and XE616 on the left and XE656, XF506, XE584 and one unidentified on the right. These came from Nos.1,12,19,56,92 Squadrons, the Central Fighter Establishment and 229 OCU. As this photo was taken during the rehearsal, there may have been one or two different aircraft used on the actual day.

It was not just 65 Squadron, but 56 Squadron also. I have photos and info on the additional Hunters used, which I’ll post later. I wrote this book, which has all the info and the photo you seek. If you can bid on this copy, you’ll get it for an incredible bargain price:
