Photo shoot location suggestions?

Have been asked about a photo shoot location.

It’s for a partial recreation of an aircraft sales literature shot from the late 1940’s featuring a light aircraft and car. The 1947 period a/c and car are already sourced, but we’re looking for a suitable aviation orientated Art Deco style background that has obviously fly-in access but also drive-in access.

Shoreham sprung to my mind as a possibility, but does anyone else have any suitable suggestions at all…????

While Croydon’s building is lovely, it’s very hard to get an uncluttered view of it from any direction these days, IIRC.

If leaving the UK is not an issue: the Aviodrome in the Netherlands has a beautiful 1930s airport building (with accessible control tower), with matching aircraft (An-2, PBY, DC-3 to name some) available on the platform. We’ve supported photo shoots like that in the past.

Speke would be brilliant but not an option unless you bring the aircraft in by road! The Brit and Jetstream would also get in the way.

Need to find photos etc of Cambridge to have a looksee.

Watch the first or second episode of Piece of Cake.

It stands in for Le Touquet as I recall.

Sywell is the one ya want – as lovely as Shoreham is it might be difficult to get ‘uncluttered’ shots as its a jolly busy, Speke also comes to mind and also Croydon (flying in may be an issue!) – we’d welcome you to Sywell. I hear they have an excellent museum too 😉

Best thing is to do a ‘recce’

Sywell is a definite “go”, we’ve done a number of photosessions there and the management are never less than enthusiastic and co-operative.

As for getting the aeroplanes close to the art-deco…….

Had a look at the Sywell website, and although it initially looked promising, I’m not sure you can get the a/c and car close together with the Art Deco hotel as a close behind backdrop…….but it’s not that clear from a mix of looking at the website and zooming in on Google Earth…….??

Need to find photos etc of Cambridge to have a looksee.

Ta muchy so far…….:)
