As you may be aware, the Malta Aviation Museum are trying to get the fuselage of the Gladiator “Faith” moved to their Museum at Ta’Qali where it restored complete with wings.
There is an online poll on the front page of the Times of Malta website. Please could you show your support for the museum and vote to get the aircraft moved?
Vote here – The Times of Malta website
Thanks

Aviation museum
If slightly off-topic, when I intended to visit Cosford Aerospace Museum,I went to the Brussels official British tourist Office where the lady (Definitely British) told me that there was no Air Museum in Cosford.
When I had a word with one of the staff afew days later, they confirmed that they are listed in an official guide of British Museums.
So..

Further to my previous post, speaking to the curators at MAM, they have a big problem with not being recognised by the tour operators. I spoke to some tourists at my hotel who visited the Craft Centre(alongside which MAM is situated at Ta’Qali) but were not taken to the aviation museum or given time to visit it themselves, which caused great disappointment. The Tourist Board in Malta really need to take this museum more seriously, as the work they have done in preserving Malta’s aviation heritage is World Class and I have no hesitation in recommending that they ‘rescue’ the Gladiator from the War Museum.

Interesting how dramatically the vote ratio of ‘yes’ to ‘no’ has changed over the 10 hours since Glenn’s first post.

Could not agree more, the Museum in Valetta achieved a lot in terms of gathering items together that would have been sold or worse still lost. It is however totally inadequate for a modern museum. Even in such a dry climate the levels of damp are terrible- many of the paper items on display have a large amount of foxing.
The museum at Valetta deserves recognition as above- but it’s now time to move on and the MAM is growing into a world class centre for preservation.

Done! I visited the Gladiator in Valletta’s War Museum last year and was dismayed to see just this fuselage in such a cramped, dim museum. However, when I visited the Malta Aviation Museum at Ta’Qali and saw the wonderful standard of restoration on the Spitfire, Hurricane, Vampire and Sea Hawk, I was very excited when they told me they were hoping to bring the Gladiator there and marry it to a set of wings. I really hope it does happen!
