G2 Trust Spitfire Restorations.

Hi all.

Apologies in advance for yet another Spitfire thread, but it’s well worth it if you ask me.

I’ve read somewhere (though annoyingly I can’t now find where!) that a new enterprise called the G2 Trust has acquired 3 combat-history Spitfires and is restoring/will restore all to airworthy status. As I recall, I think the airframes are a Mk IX, a Mk XIV and a Mk XVI, though I may have these wrong.

I’d love to find out more about these projects, apparantly they’re currently at Airframe Assemblies on the Isle of Wight, but can find no link to the G2 Trust. I thought there was a link to a website but I have been unable to find any related site.

Can anyone shed any light on the above?!

Thanks,

Rich.

Look in the latest ‘Pilot’ – you can put your thoughts to G2 on her future scheme

Ahh finally TE517 emerges again. This airframe has been under restoration forever

There was a pic of it in Jeremy Flack’s first Spitfire book – and it was mentioned as “under rebuild” (I think) waaaay back then!

Whats the plan, any ideas? Are they to keep and operate the five

That was what AM stated – although I don’t have my copy to hand to quote the article, sadly.

Whats the plan, any ideas? Are they to keep and operate the five – VERY expensive with little income (theres at least 6 Spitfires for every airshow slot now) or are they (more likely) for sale – difficult market, for example where would Historic Flying be if Tom Blair hadnt come along.

There was a large news story on this in last months Pilot magazine (in the Old Timers section) which gave a bit more detail than in the other mag. I know Pilot is not really aimed at the vintage aviation enthusiast, but they do get the odd exclusive from time to time.:)

Yes, this was probably the best article on the subject.

It also had a picture and update on AR213! 🙂

Cheers

This was also covered in ‘Aircraft Illustrated’ recently so you might find some answers there.

I wondered who would be the first to ask, and I myself refrained from doing so since there will, apparently, be more details on this collection soon, according to “the other” historic aviation magazine…. 😉

The article states FIVE Spitfires under restoration to fly: two MkIXs, two MkXIVs and a MkXVI. One of these Spits, MkXVI TE184, sat for a couple of years in the OFMC hangar at Duxford before being sold.

I’m as intrigued to know as you are, but I’m just as happy to wait for all to be revealed…
