Thanks for the information Ross, so if i understand you correctly the Mk30 feeds the Alt info to the mode C transponder we ATC type use to watch you guys 😉

The extra info about park aviation may well fit in with what they chap who sold it to me told me, as he and a colleague decided to liberate the panel prior to the rest of the airframe being scrapped.

missed out again on the TACAN indicator so still looking for one.

Bex I must make a trip over to Peters collection, when is a good time to visit to get the guided tour of your old girl?

Cheers Cliff

Essentially the same device but one is the intelligent one and the other is a dumb repeater.

The Mk30 for the nav is the master instrument.
This contains a normal pressure alt capsule as the backup but the primary pressure circuits accept an input from a remote Pressure Error Correction Unit (PECU) to display a more accurate height than that derived from the alt capsule.

The electronic height derived from the PECU is output to the Mk29 and used as a servo input (the Mk29 also has a pressure capsule as a backup).

The Mk30 also has the function of retransmitting the aircraft height as a Flight Level (FL) to the Secondary Surveilance Radar System for display on the ATC ground radar scopes.

By the way, I think that your new TT.18 panel was scrapped by Park Aviation after disposal from the Battle Damage Flight.

Hi Bex, The Altimeter as Ross has suggested is indeed a Mk29B and the Horizon gyro is a Mk3 6A/5035.

Ross, you might know? Why did the pilot have a Mk29B and the Nav a Mk30 altimeter, would have thought they would have had the same flavour!

Cheers

Hi Bex,

The altimeter is a Mk 29B servo.

It is paired with the Mk30 that is fitted to the Nav panel.

Part numbers varied to denote the various encoders fitted to the rear of the Mk30.

The numbers for a PR.7 are different to a PR.9 or a TT.18 but the basic instrument looks identical so any Mk29 can be fitted to the pilot panel of 773 and a Mk30 to your nav panel.

Good news about the WH856 panel is that it came complete with the last fit instruments. The only none original parts are the new wiring for the post lights and the compass correction cards are from a nimrod… see pic

I have looked on LesB Tribute site but WH856 is not listed as strictly speaking it is not a survivor just a main instrument panel, But will drop Les a line you never know it may start a new catagory on the tribute site 🙂

It wouldnt surprise me knowing Les, although I would say that an instrument panel deserves mention, specially if the owner restores it to former glory. Les has some old pics of my old girl, and I cant wait to able to send him some decent shots of her looking good as new, but Im on me own so its gonna be a while LoL Oh BTW I have pilots notes for the B2 if that helps? Bex

P.S: Ross, when u gonna come see my old girl?

Well Bex

I have just come into posession of TT18 WH856 main panel so would be interested in it’s history. I know it was last at Abingdon at the Battle damamage school before being broken up and before that it did a short stint with FRADU but not much else.

first time i don’t do a quick search before post DOH!

Hey Cliff, this is my usual party trick, I have a habbit of forgetting about doing a search before I start typing LoL. And the more Canberra threads the better, Im sure theres a few forumites who’d agree :diablo: Bex
