Yesterday I visited the museum and workshop at CFB Greenwood, Nova Scotia to see how the Avro Anson restoration was coming along. Actually I was dropping off some brown bottle pop for the lads working on her. Instead, I was treated to my first opportunity to get on base-proper as the crew was heading into the maintenance hangar where their Douglas Mk IV Dakota (S/N: 655B RCAF, C/N: 16174/32922) was temporarily being housed. After a hundred Q&A by security, my pass was issued and off we went. Have a look at the attached photos for an update.
The Anson is scheduled to be transported to the same hangar for fitting of the wings, covering and painting later this or early next year. As far as the Dak restoration is concerned…there is talk of a new addition for the museum and workshop spaces at The Greenwood Aviaition Museum. Fingers crossed!
Cheers,
Troy

Hi guys,
According to the lads, this DC-3 has WW2 history and was retired from RCAF service in 1968 then went into storage ever since. Aside from the outside storage damage over several decades, most of the main panel instrumentation is missing. I’ll have more photos next week as I’ll be assisting again Tuesday March 27th to remove the contents of the fuselage for inspection/storage. They plan to restore and place her with the other display aircraft in the Aeropark in front of the Museum. The Curator told me that this Dak flew out of Greenwood in the 1950’s which leads me to believe it will be finnished in a livery scheme from that era.

Thanks for posting recent pictures of 655B….:)
I had taken many photos of her at CAvM Rockcliffe…she was getting pretty rough looking…do you think she will be displayed one day next to the Lancaster or Neptune at Greenwood?
