RAF RANGEFINDER MKIIIAHorizon and Bubble type

RAF RANGEFINDER MKIIIA Horizon and Bubble type

We have just had the above item donated to us – I’ve never seen one before! It is mint and leather cased and is similar to a hand held periscope..

Yes I know its a rangefinder cuz it says so but where how and in what was it used?

My first thought was Coastal Command, eg U boat spotting..or maybe AOP reconnaissance?

You only have to ask…

o.k., so it’s a Mk. II, not a Mk. III but at least it’s a start!
