Bell X1 Replica Wanted

Does anyone know of replica Bell X1 that might be for sale or of anyone that could make one?

I know that there are a few around, including one at the Edwards Air Force Base museum. Any help is greatly appreciated.

.
I attended the Avalon Airshow on Sunday and saw the X-1 “replica” on display, it is obviously not 100% scale and is more a “facsimile” than a true replica with simply painted canopy etc.

I took some photos myself but found this photo on an Australian forum that shows the item in its fullest glory.

I couldnt identify who might own it? but it was associated with Chuck Yeager’s award by the Royal Aeronautical Society so eith they or Airshows Downunder would be the best contacts should this item be of further interest to you? and to find out its future availability?

Mark,

Thanks for the information on the show and for any contact information you can acquire. Much appreciated! Thanks to everyone else for feedback on this topic. Next request will be for a GeeBee R1 replica source…

Well here’s a choice of three, they call them D-558’s but they look like X-1’s to me!

Nice pic. The swept wings and tails (on the -2) and raised canopies are a clue…

Wasn’t one of them on display at Mildenhall Air Fete about 10 years ago, must have been for the 50th anniversary of the event, maybe it’s still kicking about in the back of one of their hangars, seem to remember it looked pretty realistic…….

I rember that too.I had just introduced my son to The Right Stuff and can still recall the excitement on his face standing just a few feet away from Glamorouse Glennis.

“We” are currently holding the “Australian International” airshow in Melbourne Australia and there is apparantly a Bell X-1 replica on display as part of this years “Breaking the Barriers” theme, with Chuck Yeager as a guest of honour.

I do not know the quality or source of the replica, and will try to take some pics of it and post them after I attend the public day on Sunday, as I was too busy in the trade show yesterday to venture outside or along the flight line and didnt have a camera with me in anycase, it is also likely other forumites such as JDK might get there ahead of me and post pics in the mean time.

I will endeavour to make enquiries as to its ownership and future after the airshow? if that might be of interest?

Don’t attempt to ask at the gate, from the looks of their security at the moment, you’ll end up at Guantanamo Bay with a copy of the Koran and an orange suit.

It reminds me…what happened to ther replicas made for The Right Stuff film?

The ‘Proud Bird Restaurant’ had one (still there ?) Located on the freeway at the end of Los Angeles International airports runway. Seem to rembemer that this and other theme restaurants were something to do with David Tallichet. Guess that it depends on what you want to do with the replica as to how easy it will be to build one. What’s you plan ???
