Auster G-ARRX

Does anyone know of the whereabouts of this aircraft? Nearly 20 years ago I collected the remnants of this aeroplane in my garage before Mr J.E.D. Mackie rescued them from my inexpert clutches and did a beautiful restoration job on it.
I have long since moved away (I know live in California) and only had a couple of chances to see the aeroplane complete. I would very much like to get in touch with Mr Mackie or the current owner.

Any help appreciated.

I traded some Auster parts with Jed Mackie a few years ago – I great guy who based his Auster at Popham and lived not a million miles away at that stage.

Landyman the RAF museum hold micro fiche of aircraft record cards by serial. Or try the relevant Air Britain Mil aircraftt serial book which will list unit allocation and is from the same source.

RRX was rebuilt in the back of one of the BA hangars at LHR where mr Mackie worked, I used to go and have a chat now and again and watch the progress. All the work was done to the highest possible standard, superb job.

Interesting reading, this ones mill serial isn’t far off mine, VF519, this one is definitly in need of a load of restoration work, all thats left of her at the moment is the fuselage frame and a few bits i have sourced. have you guys any idea of the units VF512 served with?. just wondering as i am trying to find out the markings mine would have carried, after de-mob 519 was converted to a terrier 2 G-ASYN. any info would be greatfully recived.

all the best.

Re G-ARRX

Thank you for the information. I suppose I should try different search engines; other than pictures of the aeroplane I had not much luck finding Mr Mackie, who appears to still own the aeroplane after all these years.

I understand the point being made about publishing people’s addresses and I wasn’t really asking for it specifically ,especially in an open forum like this, but I appreciate the help.

I don’t publish or reproduce people’s addresses, even if they’re in an online database, without their permission. It’s also not hard to do a four letter search off a link you’ve been fed, surely?

Point accepted, but I expected the info. to be there without further searching, so was just trying to save others the necessity of inserting ‘four letters!’:) My initial aim was to post a photo, but the links didn’t seem to work this morning.:(

Went to Sandown last October and it followed us out of Popham. After breakfast we landed at Popham and it landed after us. So still very much active. Quite a low-houred machine according to G-INFO.
