MAM's Canberra in the air again . . .

. . . virtually, as a flight sim subject.

Steve Beeny (an occasional poster here) visited MAM just before christmas last. He was much taken by the overall condition of WF922 spending a goodly while around, on and in the Canberra.

As a tribute he has produced a re-paint of WF922 based on the popular B.2 sim model. in the colours it is shown in at MAM. Obviously it’s not a PR.3, but it checks the box for me until the impending PR.3 and 7 come along – not that I ‘sim’ a lot, hardly ever in fact, can’t seem to land the d*mn things.

Steve has also produced WF922 in the old (original) PR colour scheme for variety, one pic below.

The re-paint is not yet available on his website but soon will be.

Meanwhile, here’s a taster. . .

. . . I will bring you one over that has been fired on ‘163, so you can show visitors what they look like,do etc? Alan.

Thanks for the offer Alan but we have several expended carts for the Canberra already (can’t hold ‘live’ carts at the museum). In fact four of them are strapped into the ‘away use’ cartridge holder up in the back hatch.

Albert
Has been thought of but, unfortunately, impractible at this time. I think nearly all MAM’s frames are already out there in the sim world except, maybe, the BP111A and the Gannet.

Wouldn’t it be good if MAM could have a Flight Sim version of all their exhibits that they could sell and raise funds, so visitors could find out what they were like to fly?

A few years ago, the guys who ran Alpha Simulation used some of the Museum’s exhibits as the basis for some of the collection of aircraft available on their “AIR POWER Cold War 1947-1970” CD-Rom. After carefully photographing all that was required, they turned reality into virtual, and this Cd-Rom was available for sale in the Museum Shop as well as via Alpha themselves… It was fun being able to play at lounge pilot on XF382 whilst also flying over Coventry complete with scenery add-ons which showed the same exhibit on the ground within the Museum 😀 😀 I know the Javelin was on there, as I have some screenshots which I did at the time showing some naughty moves in the Hunter trying to knock the Jav out of the sky…….lol As I don’t have it loaded onto the pc at this time, I can’t remember the full list of exhibits which made it onto the CD – but the idea is not new anyway….

By the way, Les….
You made me drop off my chair with the headline…lol I thought Malc had found a way of getting those Starter Carts after all….. :diablo: 😮

That’s a lot fo work involved if you have to do any from scratch. Designing verified flight dynamics for some of the rarer stuff could be tricky 😀

Absolutely superb Les! Wouldn’t it be good if MAM could have a Flight Sim version of all their exhibits that they could sell and raise funds, so visitors could find out what they were like to fly?
