Wildenwrath today

Bored, looking on Google earth again, this time at the ex RAFG bases. It looks like it’s a race track!

And try Gulersloh – it is one of those bases that disappears as you zoom in.

I haven’t heard the name Wegburg Hospital in a very long time – my sister was born there.. My old man was at Laarbruch at the time, but I was only 3 or 4, so have no memory of either place…

Wildenrath is now the main railway testing centre for Siemens transportation.

And it has been since the late 90’s. Theres not much of the old place surviving now, with the exception of the a few hangars, the gymnasium and the Married Quarters site.

Ex RAF bases Bruggen (Javelin Bks), Gutersloh (Princess Royal Bks), Geilenkirchen (NATO), Rheindahlen (JHQ), Wegburg Hospital (Health Centre), all survive relatively untouched and still in military hands.

Gatow, Laarbruch (Neiderrhein Airport), Wildenrath (Siemens research centre)and Nordhorn ranges were all returned to the host nation as the RAF moved out.
