Stopped off at Wellesbourne airfield today and I noticed that there is a replica Spitfire located there.
Very difficult to see clearly as only its nose was poppin out from behind a small hut of some sort.
I took a walk along the road and could just about see it behind the hedge. Any info on this one. It’s in brown and green camou and appears to have Battle of Briatin film codes on its fuselage side. AI ? from what I could make out no canopy on it and parts like wing fillets are scattered on the ground around it.
Any info on who owns it and whats the plans with her?
Regards Martin

Nice idea to mount above the forecourt. Rather a pity the upper paint scheme is so random!

and is indeed mounted above the garage on the edge of Abingdon.

It was restored and put on a pole over a garage if I remember right?

More like 2001 jobs to do at the minute 😀
Replica Spit woud look nice at home though. Might just fit in the garden if we clipped the wings. :diablo:

There was the odd one or two Bulldogs frames that were kicking around next to the shed. I think DS acquired it all through the MoD disposal process.
There has been some activity on the Spit rep but it seems that has progressed nay further. You could offer to put it back together and display at MAM though I bet you will say there are 1001 more jobs to do first! 🙂

Would one of the Bulldogs be the one that left Wellesbourne for Newark museum?
There was the remains of the rear fuselage of a Bulldog next to the Spit replica. Id guess from the rear of the cocpkit to the hinge point of the rudder. No fin though. Cant rem the reg.
Be good to see the Spit restored even though its not a real plane.

BoB yes, acquired or at least appeared about 5 years ago when I learnt to fly there. Part of the Squires Air Force (he owns the Bulldogs and part of the Chippy).
