I was watching a documentary and it mentioned that Kelly Johnson didn’t believe a stealth airplane was feasible and it was a good thing Ben Rich had just assumed the helm at the Skunk Works otherwise the F-117 would never have been built. This surprised me as I guess even a genius like KJ could get it wrong in this specific instance.

You have it right. Kelly did not like that concept at the begining. A good place to start investigating, would be Ben Rich´s book Skunk Works ISBN 0 7515 1503 5
