Its been a year since I last posted about this – at that time the forum indicated that it was a proposed swap for a Spit 21 – I know Gerry Cooper is restoring the airframe – does anyone know how it is progressing and/or have pics?

Warbirdfinder… I’ve no idea for the reasons behind the comments you made in your post, nor do I wish to know… I would however just like to say that I think a lot can be expected from Mr Cooper and the Il2… I have seen the aircraft on several occasions, and I think it’s magnificent. I take my hat of to Gerry and the team.
Cooper got the Il-2’s from us in a purchase/aircraft trade. The aircraft we recieved was not as described, maintenance wise. In addition, other major problems developed with him. I can only refer to the problems we had.

Maybe it could swap places at Hendon with that other highly relevant Royal Air Force airframe…..the EH-101 PP8 helicopter prototype
At least the RAF operates one version of the Merlin! I’d rather see the Sabre at Hendon than stuck half way up a wall at Cosford

Gerry moved the Gannet to Sandtoft. The propeller was dispatched by Intrepid (her owners then) to a well known prop overhaul company but the cheque to pay for the work didn’t arrive. The prop is now back with her at Elvington.

I saw the same Tempest in 2000 and not much has changed according to the most recent picture, and i remember being told the engine was away then!!
there’s also the story of the Gannet he took to Sandtoft, never did get the prop back from where-ever before its move to Elvington.

Umm………
Doesn’t it have some sort of legitimate right to be in the Millstones of Flight Hall as the most produced combat aircraft – well it and the Il-10 added together anyway…………..

They’re also awaiting a new hangar as the last one got badly mauled by the recent hurricane. AFAIK the aircraft survived ok.

is that the same bloke who is restoring the tempest to fly? would sure like to see the progress on that as well.
It is still awaiting the engine. It has been painted.
