BBC2 23:20 Tonight 2nd February “Mortgaged to the Yanks” Duration: 60mins
In case anyone else is interested to watch or set their VCR this is a programme by Sir Christopher Meyer (the former UK Ambassador to Washington) revealing the story of our multi-billion dollar debt to the USA from the end of World War 2 which was finally paid off a month ago.
I’m hoping their will be quite some historic aviation content and wonder if the continued presence of the USAF in British bases will be included.

Sorry folks – virtually no aviation content – just a quick shot of a B-17 taxying in then Churchill climbing out.
I found the programme interesting though.

This is a repeat, I watched it first time around. Boring.
Interviews with the likes of Karl Rove, Bush’s puppy. Dont expect anything but ‘political speak’.

So if were now £50M or whatever, better off now the ‘mortgage’ is over where will that £ be put to better use ? NHS ? Schools ? Putting the TSR.2 back in production ? Or kicking the Taliban’s butt ?
