Its a great joy both to me and other Ex Eagle employees to see that the Brit is to be reassembled and painted in British Eagle colours. I am sure Rodger will be overjoyed having taken the responsibility for its welfare over many years and I guess at a great cost.
I well remember the day it arrived at Heathrow from the defunt airline Transcontinetal of the Argentine and was positioned into Hanger 4 for its freight door mod. At the same time it underwent a check 4. Bristol engineers were very helpful in the assistance with the door mod. Evey single item was overhauled and in a sence produced a zero hour aircraft. The aircraft had at that time flown only 4337 hours. Its test flight after its time in the hanger produced very few defects, a tribute to engineering skills of Eagle staff. The door was an ex- air ministry and was for a 252 RAF type Britannia. CF being the first civil Britannia to be converted cost £150,000. With much learnt from this conversion the next aircraft (CG) cost less between £80,000 and £100.000.
What a sight it will be to see an Eagle Britannia next to the old terminal
at Liverpool.
A number of the old Eagle flight deck crews now in their 80,s and 90,s look with great interest at the restoration of CF. Who knows, would it be possible for Mr Harold Bamburg chaiman and founder of Eagle to crack a bottle over the old girl when she is ready?
It also go without saying a big thank-you to the Jetstream Club.

Just a couple of passing shots of ‘Charley Fox’ after a long day working on our Ground Support Equipment (well, someone has to do it!!!).

Enjoy.

I would imagine that there would be a real rush to get the fuselage together not only for looks but to stop corrosion from attacking the fuselage joints etc?

She’s been outside for a long long time so there is already some remedial work to be done, we expected that! Overall though, I’ve not seen anything frighteningly bad, nothing a wire brush, some lube and a coat of etch primer wont fix.

The real rush is because we’re not at a live airfield or a museum but on the grounds of a 4-star Marriott hotel – and they understandably like things to be ‘pretty’. The hotel management have always been wonderfully supportive of what we’re doing and are well aware of the size of the ANCF project. We are incredibly lucky and very very grateful to the Marriott. We don’t want to cause them any upset.

Hope everything goes smoothly Roy. Got any ideas for immediate future plans? How soon after she’s arrived will we see signs of reassembly?

There will be a rush to get the fuse/wing/gear together quickly so that she at least _looks_ like an aeroplane and so we can get painting. Once that is done we can take our time fitting all the control surfaces and other goodies.

Longer term… the cabin will need some seating and lighting up the cockpit has been talked about. It might even become a sim cockpit – who knows.

Stopped in to Kemble yesterday to see a variety of people and noticed that the engines have gone and heard that the fuselage sections were supposed to be transported tomorrow, can anyone confirm?

Yup. Engines arrived here at Speke yesterday along with various flying control surfaces. The ‘smaller’ bits and some support equipment will continue to come up over the next week or so with the fuse sections and wing (hopefully) by the end of february.

Ah, yes – we’d like a Vulcan at Liverpool! 🙂

Was good to meet you Jon, you’re always very welcome down here – just bring overalls :dev2:

Roy.

I did! They were in the boot of my car but I had a prior engagement with another restoration project. 😀
