Displaced Airfield Buildings

Hi

This has possibly been touched on in other threads, however. Below is a photo of a hangar from the RFC airfield at Doncaster which was located at Intake, west of the racecourse and just north of the former RAF Doncaster. This hangar was took to pieces, transported a few miles away to Blaxton and re-assembled for use as a haulage depot. Incidentally Blaxton is not far from RAF Finningley (or Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield as it’s now known!) but the move was not connected with this.

Anymore examples and similar pictures of structures being relocated and still surviving? Am I right in thinking that a similar hangar “surfaced” at Bacton, or am I thinking of something else?

Cheers

I have written on this subject before, but there is still a WW1 Aeroplane maintenance shed at Moreton Village in Essex, that was originally sited on North Weald airfield while home to the famous Zeppelin killing RFC 39 night fighter squadron.

The surviving structure is one half of a double apex shed. It left the airfield in the 1930’s when the site was significantly re-developed into what was eventually the grass airfield and buildings of WW2.

The hangar was used as the village service station, and car maintenance workshop, and laterly as a car spray shop until the 1980’s. It has been empty for some 15 years, and the site upon which it stands is now up for sale/redevelopment.

Just to update ,the site at Moreton is now under offer.

Although it didn’t move far there was a T2 Hangar at Hethel in Norfolk that was re-located close to the airfield and is still in use today, all be it as some sort of storage for a nearby farm.

Pictures can be found here

I think I’m right in saying that a T2 hangar survived in Stalybridge town centre until about the mid-80s.

I seem to recall it was last in use as a club or gym???
