Anyone got pictures of B-17 nose-art from the Memphis Belle movie? There are a few on Ollie’s site but it’s missing things like ‘Gee Whiz, Windy city, C-Cup,…
Great site BTW Ollie! Any plans on expanding it with more pictures?

Belle
I have 2 photos to post, “is you is or is you aint my baby” and “sweet Maureen” both were nose art on Sally B, they were not on for long but i managed to get a picture of them, (the art department were very good and they put on sweet Maureen as my mother was there and they asked her if she would like her name on the side). Also Sally B’s nose art did appear in the film, all the guys are on the jeep heading to the plane and you see it in the background (have a photo of that as well.
Will only post them if you all promise not to right click and save them
🙂

Not colour, but a couple of stills of the ‘Belle’ care of Warner Bros.

Simon, the downside of this view is that it results in less photos and/or extremely instrusive watermarks. Surely due courtesy and credit where credit’s due is the better approach?
I couldn’t agree more Robbo, and thats my point. We all know that people will copy/save/redistribute/post photo’s that they didn’t take without the owners consent and give no credit. It happens all the time and its a fact of life. Nothing anyone can do will change that.
My point is that photographers still upload photo’s knowing full well this goes on. You know there is a fair chance it will happen so why are people so surprised and annoyed when it does? If I park my car in town at night and leave my laptop on display on the front seat, I know it wont be there when I come back. If knowing that I still did it, people would say I was stupid and deserved to have it nicked. If I leave the laptop on display, someone will nick it. If you leave your photo’s on display, people will take them too. If you insist on displaying them, dont throw a tantrum if they get nicked or reposted without a credit. It happens, you just have to accept that, or if it bothers you, don’t post them.

Fully agree about the etiquette side of things but that’s about as far as it goes. I cannot sympathise with photographer’s who upload their images to the internet where they are freely accessible and then complain that people are misusing them.
You are right Mike when you say that just because people download illegal software does not make it right. But if Microsoft were to upload their latest version of Windows XP/Vista and make it freely accessible to the public, they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if it was then abused/used/distributed/copied by others. If they complained everybody would laugh at them and say “why did you upload it in the first place???” Its exactly the same with photographs. I would never upload photo’s of my children to the net as I would have no control over where they ended up. Why should aeroplanes be any different?
Your correct to say that just because it happens does not make it right, but like I say you are being very naive if you think it wont happen. As I said, if it bothers photographers that much they shouldn’t make the photo’s freely available on the internet.

Ahh the silly season…
Looks like good will to all men and the festive season got snuffed out quicker than a match in a fart contest.:D

I personally am saddened at the prospect and slight trend for respected and established photographers and historians to withhold or heavily watermark their images.
Irrespective of the precise legal case, ‘Memphis Belle’, here, is an etiquette issue.

The double whammy would come with the forum instigating a ‘no right click’ programme which prevents unauthorized copying of pictures as is used on other fora.
Just for info, this feature does not make it impossible to save the pic’s……..

Was permission asked of the aircraft owners to have their airplanes photos shown on the web?:D 😀 😀 :diablo:
By: tyler - 8th January 2007 at 09:21
Hi ollie, Ive got some pics of the aircraft at Dux during the filming (B17’s, P51’s, 109’s, Dax’s,) theres close ups of the 17’s nose arts, about 45 pics all together. I could scan them and post them up here or Email them if you’d like.

The common sense thing to do I suppose when posting pictures on a forum where people can do the ‘right click and save’ is to put a copyright watermark through the frame.
Not just a small one in the corner that can be cropped out, a dirty great big one through the middle complete with e-mail address so that if someone wishes to use the origional then they have no option but to contact you.
The double whammy would come with the forum instigating a ‘no right click’ programme which prevents unauthorized copying of pictures as is used on other fora.
As a bonus it would prevent all this fuss and everyone would be happy;).

John.

How has this thread escaped me untill now? Thank you for the feedback. If any more material comes my way i will add it to the referance, im afraid with the airshow season it kind of fell by the wayside. At the moment i am making basic but rather tedious changes to my site, namely resizing my page to fit 1024×768 screens.
I recantly made contact with the owners of the B25 in the USA and i am hoping that may bring up some leads.
I have also been rather busy working on the walk arounds section and the General aviation pages. Keep an eye out for any new addditions, it will be noted at the top of the airshow page.

You might have the courtesy to remove your unauthorised postings of my work before you go.
I can’t believe this is the same Mike that I used to work with at Duxford all those years ago. I can even remember the day that Adrian gave him his first big break into TFC by letting him clean the Bearcat. Whats with all the high and mighty stuff Mick?? Take the stick outta your a*s and chill out. They are only photos of old aeroplanes. You sound like you’ve got some sort of axe to grind with this forum or something?
You must have posted those pics on the internet and at that point, despite what any laws say, they became public property. If you dont want folks to abuse or look at your photographs, keep them to yourself. If you dont want people to download your pics and keep them on their hard drive, dont upload them in the first place. If you want to keep any kind of control of your photos, dont go posting them on internet forums. If I had some photo’s that I wanted to retain copyright control over the last thing I would do would be to post them freely all over the internet.
I wish you all the best Mick, but I think you’re being a little nieve if you think that your photos are going to be treated any differently to all the games, software, music and movie’s that are illegally uploaded and downloaded on the interweb. Dont post them if it bothers you that much, its as simple as that really.

I think Mike is talking about the “right click and save as” mentality that proliferates today. If a picture is worth saving on your hard drive, surely you could extend the photographer the courtesy of ensuring you credit their work if you choose to use the image again? I take it the photographer wasn’t asked whether or not you could save their picture?
It’s about that simple thing that most of us were taught by our parents at a tender age, politeness and manners. The anonymity of the internet allows those who wish to, to amass huge archives of other people’s work. It’s easy to post someone else’s work so why isn’t it so easy to give them credit? The internet allows people to steal and to use others images not only for profit, but just to illustrate their point. It is a form of theft. If the photo belonged to a relative or friend you would ask their permission before using it. Just because an image is available on the net does not mean that it isn’t owned by someone and that copyright law might apply.
“Oh I can’t be bothered with this. I’m outta here.”
And Ross, if that’s your attitude, please be careful the door doesn’t bang you on the backside as it closes behind you.

kev35

I saw the images this morning on this thread and found them very interesting:)
Such a shame that they have to be removed. Why cant people just get on with each other?
As for copyright i could understand if they were being published for financial gain. which i dont think this was the case on this thread;)
As for the original images they were posted on the internet before:rolleyes: so if we dont want people looking at them why post them in the first place:confused: :diablo:
Chris:cool: 😀 😀

I trust you have permission from the copyright holder to save these images on your hard drive and re-post them here without crediting them.
Correct me if I am wrong but why is this a copyright issue?, all the poster is doing is bringing to someones attention the pictures on another thread much the same as someone would pass you a book to show you an illustration.
The poster has not used the images for profit or personal gain as far as I can see and after posting who is to say that he did not delete them from his hard drive?.
Regards,
John.
