Can anyone point me at a resource that lists surviving original WW1 aircraft please?
Specifically looking for a list of SE5 survivors.

The two local aeroplanes I added to the list have been sold by their elderly owner.
I’ll try to provide a new location by state, but being privately owned, I don’t know if I’ll get the new owners names…or if I do whether I’d be comfortable sharing them in this rather public forum.
Plus, there is a new local Standard J-1 project, I don’t know if it has an identity. It’s being restored to flight, so it will be virtually all-new, the only exceptions will be the metal fittings. Since i know the owner, I’ll ask permission to post his name.

I thought one of the BE2s he owns is an original. The problem is where do you draw the line, some are ment to contain original parts.

Kermit Week’s 1 1/2 Strutter is now with The Vintage Aviator Ltd, NZ (swapped for a repro Albatros + refurbing Kermit’s engine for it).
The ‘Peter Jackson’ entries above should be TVAL. I think the Omaka AHC one is TVAL owned as well (and lent to Omaka AHC, like many of their exhibits).

Also we have Peter Jackson building / restoring WWI aircraft now.

I’ve just stumbled across this fascinating thread while researching info to update my logs.
A huge amount of effort went in to creating this list, but it hasn’t been updated for 5 years now and there must have been some changes to locations, or there may be more information available on known aircraft?
There may possibly even be some additions?
Or, in the last 5 years has a really good website on the subject appeared and this list is no longer relevant?

Sea Hawk, The Windsock Datafile, which, incidentally is No. 103, and not as I originally stated, provides the following information on South African DH 6’s
“Two DH6’s were taken to South Africa by F H Solomon, who traded as Cape Coast Resorts Aviation, but crashes brought an end to the company in 1921.” (p. 25)
An appendix on p. 33 identifies the DH 6’s as
G-EAMK, former C9448 “Crashed in South Africa 1921.”
G-EAML, former C9449 “Crashed in South Africa. Now in SAAF Museum.”Incidentally, the appendix gives the owner’s name as F H Soloman.
As for other surviving DH 6 relics, one propeller was advertised in 2006 as being for sale for £ 1 750.

The surviving DH6 in South Africa, consists of a number of parts from C9449, & appears to be very broken up & incomplete, the most recogniseable parts are the tail feathers, I believe that the remains were recovererd from the loft of a barn, where they had been stored since it crashed on a beach in the 20’s & are now stored in a shipping container near to the museum.
Any attempted rebuild will be greatly hampered by the lack of drawings.
I seem to remember hearing of some wing components being found a few years ago, that were thought to be DH6, any idea’s where they might have gone to ?.

I found info that Thulin Typ D – F1 at the Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseo is more than a part-replica, only the engine is from the original plane.

Thulin Typ D “F4” arrived in Finland on 18th March 1918. Was destroyed on 28th March 1918 at Orivesi. The plane was “restored” with spare parts from an other Thulin (F1) and remainings of “F4” in 1938 and was displayed at expedition in Helsinki organized by Suomen Ilmapuolustusliitto. The plane went missing after that and was “found” in 1955 from Suomenlinna outside Helsinki.
So the Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseo has partly replica “F1” and the “F4” is probably going to Suomen Ilmailumuseo in Vantaa. The fuselage is from “F4” and the “wing” from “F1”. Photo by Pentti Hyvärinen.

It seems that Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseo has an other Thulin D in their collection (F2?). Finns received two Thulins in 1918 so both of them have survived! The now refounded plane is only a fuselage without wings, but I don’t know about the engine.

Sea Hawk, The Windsock Datafile, which, incidentally is No. 103, and not as I originally stated, provides the following information on South African DH 6’s
“Two DH6’s were taken to South Africa by F H Solomon, who traded as Cape Coast Resorts Aviation, but crashes brought an end to the company in 1921.” (p. 25)
An appendix on p. 33 identifies the DH 6’s as
G-EAMK, former C9448 “Crashed in South Africa 1921.”
G-EAML, former C9449 “Crashed in South Africa. Now in SAAF Museum.”Incidentally, the appendix gives the owner’s name as F H Soloman.
As for other surviving DH 6 relics, one propeller was advertised in 2006 as being for sale for £ 1 750.

It currenty has 30 flying aircraft and another 25 under restoration. Emphasis is on American civil types produced between the wars.
It’s a registered non-profit organization established by farm equipment manufacturer Terry Brant, a long time pilot and restorer of antique aircraft.

The “other monthly Historic Aviation periodical” reports that the FE2b is being prepared for a move to an external contractor for further work prior to fabricking and painting by the RAFM conservation centre at Cosford. It has apparently been worked upon at a workshop in Southampton
Good to see that in due course we shall see another extinct type reborn
One can only hope that it will be possible to freely view it when it is incarcerated in the G-W building or do we still have to time our visits?
