One advantage that our local (NZ) auction site TradeMe.co.nz has is when you ask the seller a question it appears on the listing page. That way you can warn the unsuspecting buyer of dodgy goods or misquoted history, etc.

eBay should adopt that practice.

If he doesn’t sell it this time, he’ll probably relist it as having belonged to Douglas Bader.
…It seems he found it under a hotel bed in Liverpool….

Surely it would be silver? 🙂

Re the original “Sopwith Camel Joystick” I hope some poor unsuspecting aviation enthusiast isn’t in for a sticky time on Christmas morning. I can just picture the scene now; “No Dear, it’s fantastic… um, just what I’ve always wanted. Quite a find (gulp) And yes, of course I’ll get all the lads from the flying club round to see it.” For once, I reckon I’ll be content to find Mrs Creosote has got me socks again. 🙂

Looks like a centre console and gear stick from a Ford Fiesta:D 😀 .

That is one fantastic chunk of Lightning, how much?;) .

John.

That has got to be worth two table legs and a chair leg thrown in I reckon 🙂

Just had another look at the sellers details on Ebay and correct me if I am wrong but has this line been added recently

“The item doesn’t actually belong to me and therefore if any questions need answering, email me and i will email back the owners telephone number, thanks”

I better hide my one from the missus then !:) 🙂 🙂 🙂

Funny to see as a comparison a complete Tornado column was listed twice and took a while to sell in the end on buy it now for £180. I suppose its down to rarity.

On a more serious note I notice a EE Lightning grip fetched £325 on evilbay t’other day, is this the expected price now, I always thought they were around the £200 mark personally

I’m not happy about that one!!:D that stick top although in very good condition the handbrake catch was broken off.

Mine is in complete condition and mounted on a very nice stand (I paid way less than 325), trouble is now the missus is looking at all my bits with pound signs in her eyes:rolleyes: .

IMHO £250 is about right for one but the trouble is finding them.

Regards,

John.

For all those who think that this seller has not got a leg to stand on I have been doing some research and have found that this control column actually comes from the very rare Sopwith Cabriole, famed for its its ‘ball and claw’ control column.

Although I personally still think that this seller would be well advised to leg it and still think that it is at the foot of my Christmas list.

I’ve ‘Googled’ this photo of N8156, in Ottawa.

I presume its clarifys what a real Camel stick looks like ?

I contacted the seller earlier today, told him it was a chair leg and sent a link to this very photo. I also thanked him for giving me a bloody good laugh.:)

Behold the reply…

“the item isnt mine although the owner is sure this is genuine, if you want a ‘laugh’ i could give the telephone number of the owner”

I’m tempted by the offer of the phone number, if only to see if the dialling code is for somewhere in Cloud-Cuckoo Land.

You couldn’t make this stuff up!:D
