I was sent this link today, and on a trawel through the various albums came across these two photographs, taken in 1943, of the funeral of an RAF Crewman, Sgt Dennis Walter Angell of 97 Sqn.

Not great quality I’m afraid but of some interest:-

Dennis was the tail gunner on a 97 Sqn Lancaster III JB275 OF-H detailed to attack Leipzig on the night of 20/21 October 1943. It had departed Bourn at 17:53. Of the crew 5 were killed and two taken POW:-
P/O K Painter KiA
Sgt T Deacon KiA
Sgt R C Saunders pow
Sgt J E Bacon KiA
Sgt T Andrews pow
Sgt S F Hone KiA
Sgt D W Angell KiA
Those that were killed now rest in the Berlin 1939 – 1945 War Cemetary
20 year old Dennis was originally from Woolston district of Southampton and the Son of Walter Heathcote and Eva Florence Angell

Hello Ian / Ulf – Any more info. on this post, my uncle was on board that aircraft and sadly didn’t survive the crash. There is a reference on this site;
https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/216388 which claims the plane was shot down by night fighter pilot Oberfeldwebel Wilhelm Schulte-Heinrich of the 7./NJG 2, flying a Bf 110G from probably Venlo airfield, the Netherlands.
