Dicky Martin – Shuttleworth Spitfire pilot

Did I read correctly in this months Flypast that Dicky Martin passed away on the 01 Sept this year? Suprised it wasn’t picked up on the forum or did I miss it?

RIP Dicky

Wg/Cdr Richard “Dicky” Martin DFC and Bar, AFC, OBE was a wartime Hurricane and Spitfire pilot.Dicky fought in the Battle of France, BoB and later in North Africa, he was credited with a total of 5 confirmed victories. Post war he joined Glosters and did a lot of test flying on the Meteor and also the Javelin, he also used to display Gloster’s Gladiator G-AMRK which is still flying with Shuttleworth. Dicky was invited to join the select band of Suttleworth pilots where he carried on displaying the Gladiator and reaquainted himself with the Spitfire. Dicky’s performances in Spitfire AR501 were superb, he died on September the 1st at the age of 88.
Dicky Martin, fighter ace, test pilot and display pilot we salute your memory.
