Unknown electrical component of Halifx Bomber

Hi all,

here is a electrical component from a Halifax crash site.
In front of the component – pic #1 – (you can see a little quarder insite) was a flexion wave.
May be someone know something about the usage of this component ?

It’s the device that, driven by the engine, generates the signal that drives an electrical engine RPM indicator.
