The Hurricane is Peter Vacher’s. The weather is predicted to be fine, blue skies in Norfolk so my man there tells me. Lets hope that Coltishall gets a good send off, they predict 3000 people, must be far more than that number intending to be there?

Will there seriously be any other place to be tomorrow?????

NO!!! see you there.

But most of the personnel and all the flying units have moved out. It certainly looked quiet when I drove past it on Saturday. Final closure next week, with a Hurricane flypast, I believe.

I believe a Hurricane is due to land at 0930hrs and take off about an hour later on 30.11.2006, as the last aircraft movement at Coltishall before it closes. One of my ATC colleagues has been invited to attend the closing ceremony as an ex-regular previously based there, where there will be a ceromonial locking of the main gates.

The situation has been given big coverage on BBC Look East and Anglia local news.
There were some scenes of the inside of the almost deserted base on the !8:30 news last night, very sad to see, even the houses appear empty.
At least the Jaguar gate guard and the station sign are still in-situ.
The locals are understandingly a bit miffed, having lost 20m a year going into the local economy, they were at least expecting an industrial estate providing new jobs as well as an influx of affordable housing, I’m sure the debate will rage for weeks to come.
