Woo hoo, my son is 21 today, remember him, the poor kid who nearly died of meningitis earlier in the year.
We had a party last night at his mothers house and I am still feeling the affects of that, he’s probably still asleep.
21 years ago it was snowing today, I had to drive his mum to Chelmsford at 1 o’clock in the morning, but he didn’t appear till 18:00, it was a difficult day for all of us.
I tried to get him into aviation and he has done some great things, sitting in the cockpit of a Mk1 Spitfire, a Hawk, and attempting to take over the controls of a BM 737 over the Alps.
Great memories, having a session in a Tornado simulator at Finniningley with the pilots from the Patruille De France, an unforgetable practice day at North Weald and him getting accidentally floored by Gary Numan in the Squadron building.
Trouble is, whenever something cool was happening at Mildenhall, all he ever wanted to do was go on the snake slide, I always used to come back from there with friction burns and crap photos.
Happy Birthday Jack, you used to hate football but spent most of yesterday evening glued to Match of the Day, perhaps you will be an aviator yet.

Pete, glad he has made a full recovery, having been through a serious medical situation with my younger brother a month before his wedding, I know how much more the celebration means 🙂

Many Happy Returns to him, hope he doesn’t feel as rough as I did the day after my 21st birthday party, although I did spend an hour of it in the cockpit of a cessna being flung around the sky!
