The final event in the life of RAF Coltishall takes place on 30th November with a Public opening and an official public closing ceremony. Barring the weather, looks like the last fighter aircraft to land and take off will be a Hurricane (non BBMF) that will be on static display and then take part in a flypast with a couple of Jaguars as the RAF Ensign comes down for the last time. Times are 09:30 for public access and look around with the ensign coming down about 12:00 – 12:30ish (from what I heard at my last RAFA branch meeting. Camp will be open to the public, however a photo ID will be needed for entry(No photo ID, no Access).

Is anyone from anywhere near here going up there on that day, the Truman/Pesti car fleet is in a bad way at the moment and we can’t afford to do anything about it till we move.
In other words I’m trying to scrounge a lift, I suppose I could catch a train, take me bike and cycle from Coltishall Station, but even that is a difficult exercise.
Since I moved down to East Anglia 30 years ago, I’ve spent a lot of time holidaying in and visiting Norfolk and Coltishall has always had special memories for us, I’ve attended the last 2 farewell events, but seeing the flag come down for the last time will be something special, apart from the unique opportunity of seeing Jags flying with a Hurricane.
I remember camping at Kelling Heath one year and while cooking breakfast, we were amazed at the sight of 20+ Jags flying over followed by an equal number of F-15’s, the whole lot going on to intercept a bunch of incoming B-1’s.
I also remember having a pint outside the 2 Lifeboats at Sheringham and watching a big line of Jags flying in over the sea, nose to tail, best of all were the exercises with the Polish SU-22’s, how to relieve the boredom of beach sunbathing by having mock air combat over your heads all day.
Anyone going?

Sorry Brian, did not pick it up on the search I did before starting the thread. Hurricane is one of the civvy ones, which one it is going to be I have been told by Mick Jennings, but cannot remember off the top of my head. See you there.
