Trying to save myself a job of trawling though the latest Wrecks & Relics book but does anybody know where I can find a list of all the UK’s Gate Guards. Military only please guys.
Just thinking of a silly boy project to do through next year.

Is the Lightning still outside Teeside Airport (Middleton St George?)?
Lightning XR749 moved some time ago, when the fine folk at Teeside Airport no longer wanted it. Its now on show in Peterhead, Scotland at the premises of a company that reconditions industrial Avon powerplants used to power generators in the oil industry.

Sealand had a Hunter – not sure if it has gone with the base closing? Is the Lightning still outside Teeside Airport (Middleton St George?)?

Another few………
Marham has Victor XH673 as previously stated, also I think Tornado GR1 ZA400 (might be a few numbers out there, possibly 405 or 406) and is soon to be joined by Canberra XH169 which is currently hidden away within the camp somehwere.
Waddo has of course Vulcan XM607 by the A15 and had a Phantom outside 23 Sqn’s building last time i was there.
Akrotiri had a Lightning and a whirlwind back in 2004
Conningsby had a Phantom and a Tornado F2/F3? last time i was there.
Lossiemouth has a Tornado GR1 dressed up as a GR4
That’s all i’ve got for now!

For Pete Truman
I think that you’re probably right, that’s how it was presented to the press and Joe Public, although how much was actually fact and how much was hype, I know not.
For Tim, Binbrook 01
Well, at least I got the number right! Thanks for the additional info, I’m afraid the memory ain’t what it used to be.
Regards
Allan

One for ChiefofFairies…
The 527th Tactical Fighter and Training Agressor Sqn, survived for a long while at Alconbury with the F-5Es eventually became the 527th AS, and it then converted to the F-16C upon its move to Bentwaters in 1988-89.
Sadly they were the first of many post Cold War cutback victims, disbanding by 1990. IIRC.
Funnily enough, out in the USA, the aggressors squadrons are enjoying a comeback with a new F-15 unit at Nellis, and another unit planned somewhere a little colder…..ie Alaska
