Hi all–
Bit like my query back in the spring with the Lanc–this time the potential painting subject is a P-40N/Kittyhawk IV, flown by a Canadian. Now there were no RCAF Kitty IV units that saw combat; but there were RAF/RAAF squadrons in the Western Desert and (later) Italy on which Canadians may have flown during the period (44-45) Mk.IVs were in use. The most probable units seem to be 3 and 450 (RAAF) and 250 (RAF). Anyone have info on any Canadian airmen in combat in Kitty IVs?? (Has to be a IV/N)…The Lanc query was resoundingly successful (thanks again all)…hope this one works too.
Cheers–

Hi Pat–
Thanks–Stocky’s was the first name I found…only hitch in this case is I’m looking to paint one of the later “stretch” P-40s, and it appears from what I’ve read so far that Stocky had moved on to fly Spits by the time the Mk.IV Kittys would have arrived in theatre. Hm. Wonder about late Mk.IIIs though! Analogous to the P-40M and similar to an early N/IV. Gotta keep hunting…
Cheers

Canadian Kittyhawk Pilot
Thats easy -one Kittyhawk pilots stands out. James Francis (Stocky) Edwards DFC & BAR, DFM and Order of Canada, 260 Sqn RAF born in Nokomis Sask. Completed 470 combat sorties and claimed 13 kills flying Kittyhawks during WW II. Finished the war as a Wing Commander of a Canadian Spitfire Wing.
