Can anyone recommend any good general works (i.e. not monographs on individual aircraft – not yet) on British fighters from 1945 to ca 1960? I’ve recently realised how appalling my ignorance in this area is, & I’d like to start remdying it.
TIA

Thanks, all. The Gunston book sounds like a good starting point. Scotavias 1961 World Aviation Directory I think would be excellent for a contemporary view (so if you’re interested in it, contact him), but I’d expect a later compilation such as Gunstons to have access to information which hadn’t been released back then, so better match what I’m looking for. Worldwide, but that’s OK.
I’ll still keep an eye out for more narrowly focused & correspondingly more detailed books, so if anyone knows of any good ones, I won’t complain if you tell me.
Ta again,
Paul.

Highly recommend this book – very few pictures but very readable.
